About

Dr. Samuel N. Helman is a board-certified Otolaryngologist – Head and Neck Surgeon with fellowship training in advanced Endoscopic Sinus and Skull Base Surgery (Rhinology). He is an expert in minimally invasive surgical approaches to treat complex diseases of the sinus and skull base, including infections, inflammatory diseases, tumors and brain fluid leakage. This includes expertise in primary and revision sinus surgery, frontal sinus surgery, nasal polyp surgery, image-guided surgery, nasal tumor surgery, tear duct and orbital surgery, nasal obstruction surgery, nosebleed management, CSF leak repair, and treatment of taste and smell disorders.

Dr. Helman is also an expert in salivary gland disorders including parotid and submandibular tumors and stones, thyroid and parathyroid diseases and cancers, vocal cord disorders including nodules, cysts, and polyps, and benign, malignant and congenital masses and malformations of the neck. He further treats disorders of the ear, eardrum, and mastoid bone including infections and hearing loss.

Dr. Helman attended medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City as a Dean Dominick Purpura Scholar, where he graduated with distinction in Otolaryngology and received the Dean's Recognition Award. Dr. Helman then completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital's New York Eye and Ear Infirmary Program, where, as Chief Resident he was awarded the J. Swift Hanley Research Award. Dr. Helman finished his training at Emory University School of Medicine, completing a prestigious and highly sought-after Rhinology (Sinus) and Skull Base Surgery fellowship, where he focused on minimally invasive and open approaches to the sinus and skull base.

Dr. Helman has authored thirty-nine peer reviewed publications, five book chapters, and has presented as a lecturer at over forty national and international academic meetings.

Dr. Helman serves as a member of the American Rhinologic Society Skull Base and Orbital Surgery Education Committee. He derives enormous satisfaction from global health, and most recently returned from a cleft lip and cleft palate surgical mission to Santa Marta, Colombia.
