About

Dr. Simona Proteasa is the Director of Comprehensive Epilepsy at White Plains Hospital. Dr. Proteasa is a board-certified neurologist with specialized expertise in epilepsy and comprehensive neurologic care. After completing medical school in Romania, she completed advanced fellowship training at leading U.S. institutions, including the Elmhurst–Mount Sinai Program, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and North Shore University Hospital. Dr. Proteasa’s background also includes significant research experience at Wayne State University, supporting her commitment to high-quality, evidence-based patient care.

Dr. Proteasa oversees White Plains Hospital’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, the only adult Level 4 Specialized Epilepsy Center in the region, as rated by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). The Level 4 designation is applied to hospitals and medical centers that provide the most complex forms of intensive neuro-diagnostics monitoring, as well as extensive medical, neuropsychological and psychosocial treatment, according to the NAEC. Level 4 centers also offer a complete evaluation for epilepsy surgery, including intracranial electrodes, and provide a broad range of surgical procedures for epilepsy. She holds an Executive MBA from the Frank G. Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University.

Prior to joining White Plains Hospital, Dr. Proteasa was Associate Director of the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at North Shore University Hospital. She has presented at numerous conferences nationwide and has a particular interest in status epilepticus, medically refractory and autoimmune epilepsy. She has also served as an investigator for medical devices and is interested in advanced cell therapy and neurostimulation approaches for epilepsy.
