About

Asma Khaliq, MD, is Director, Endovascular Interventions and Director, Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Cardiology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Khaliq’s clinical focus includes ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) interventions, complex high-risk interventional coronary procedures (CHIP), the treatment of patients with cardiogenic shock, pulmonary embolism response team (PERT) and large bore aspiration/mechanical thrombectomy, complex endovascular intervention, limb salvage, acute limb ischemia and carotid and subclavian interventions.

After obtaining her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the Government Medical College in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India in 2005, Dr. Khaliq moved to the United States to continue her medical training, completing her internal medicine residency at the University of Florida in 2012. She then completed a cardiovascular fellowship and interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of South Florida in 2016. Following this, Dr. Khaliq attended Mount Sinai Heart Hospital, where she completed a complex and high-risk interventional procedures (CHIP) fellowship in interventional cardiology in 2018 and an endovascular fellowship in 2019.

Dr. Khaliq’s research focuses on coronary artery disease (CAD) in women, pulmonary embolism response teams (PERT) outcomes research and advances in limb salvage. She has been co-lead investigator and sub-investigator on a number of research projects and her work has been published in book chapters and peer-reviewed online publications. She has also given several poster and oral presentations.

Dr. Khaliq is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology. She is also certified in Echocardiography by the American Society of Echocardiography. Dr. Khaliq is fluent in English, Hindi and Urdu.
